Remnant 2 Befouled Altar Strategy Writeup

The fight with the Befouled Altar is unique in more ways than one. To begin with, it is an altar, this means that it doesn't move. It is a stationary boss, and deals certain AoE damage. The most important thing to have into consideration when fighting the Befouled Altar, is the amount of minions it summons, including Dran Fiend and Lesser Sunken Witch.

For this reason, if you are using  Hand Guns or Long Guns, starting the attack from an elevated position is a good option. In the case of using Melee Weapons, try to be aggressive from the beginning.

Once the minions begin to be summoned, move and dodge continuously. The huge amount of them, and the fact that when dying they create toxic spores that deal damage, is what makes this fight way harder than it should be. Try to deal with them quickly, and, if possible, at the safest distance possible. As soon as you clear the area, continue attacking the Befouled Altar until it is destroyed.

You can also start by using a Damage Over Time skill like Witchfire to steadily wear down the altar's health. After damaging the altar, promptly retreat to the hallway near the lady having visions. As waves of enemies approach, focus on picking them off and use your skills strategically. Take advantage of the ledges in the area to control the battlefield.

Following each wave, retreat to a safe distance to heal, keeping in mind that the altar won't summon more waves. There are only three waves based on specific damage thresholds. Return to the altar, reapply DoT effects, and repeat this process until the altar's health is depleted.

Consider equipping Weapon Mods that enhance AoE damage or provide Crowd Control effects if you find the encounter challenging. These mods can be instrumental in managing incoming enemies. Focus on killing mobs with enhanced abilities, and when the altar summons additional enemies, prioritize dealing with them before refocusing on damaging the altar.

If you're an Engineer, the Impact Cannon can be a valuable asset in this encounter.

Attacks & Counter

Attack Counter
Death Summons: After your initial attack, the fury of the Befouled Altar will summon numerous minions for you to contend with as you try to destroy the altar. Keep moving to dodge and eliminate minions. Meanwhile, focus on the group of creatures bound to the altar; aim for their heads to inflict more damage.

Are the altars one of those 1 attempt things? Me and my friend died on the second altar and it was inactive when we got back to it :/

Found the easiest way to win this fight:

        1) use a DoT skill (I used witches Fire) to damage the altar. Run out of the small room to the hallway by the lady seeing visions.
        2) pick off and use skills to level the guys running at you. Use the ledges to your advantage.
        3) once the wave is dead. Heal up. The altar will not summon more, there is only three waves of enemies that come and certain levels of damage.
        4) Go back and DoT the altar. Run away and rinse and repeat.

Got it on the third try after using this system.

If youare struggling kill mobs with some AoE damage mods or slow them down with CC mods.
Also dont just try and attrac olny the altar. When is screams and summon mobs focus on them and after they are dead focus on altar again. Thats how I did it on nightmare.
If you will just try and dpc altar down you will get overrun.

There are 2 altar's in the dungeon, both are needed to be destroyed to get both parts of the Ritualist Weapon. One of the Altars is near a npc named Elowen's, she will give some sort of a quest. Be ready when you get back to her.
