Defiler is a Boss in Remnant 2. Defiler is an Aberration, an empowered version of the Root Axeman. Bosses are the ultimate Enemies as they present a more challenging battle than Enemies or "Elite" Enemies, they are usually found guarding special locations or items, and some of them are important to the Lore and main Story of the game.

Remnant 2 Defiler Strategy Writeup
This boss will spawn when you attack the Root Nexus present in the battlefield. It's an empowered version of the Root Axeman and as such, shares the strategy to defeat it. It makes powerful melee attacks and an AOE ranged slam attack, put distance between you and him and shoots its armored parts covering its core. Once the armor is broken, to continue avoiding its attacks and avoiding melee while shooting at its core for maximum damage. Unlike its regular version, given that Root Flyers will also spawn, it's recommended that you bring some crowd control mods or weapon to avoid being overrun.Attacks & Counter

| Jump Slash: Jumps forward and hits in front of him with an overhead slash. | You can dodge either by evading to the sides or backing up since it does not cover a lot of distance. |
| Melee Sweep: Does two horizontal melee sweeps in front of him and then has short recovery window. | If you are close to evade backwards to put distance, it can do it a far enough distance though that you can run or walk back to avoid it. |

If you are able to kill the nexus root fast enough, you don't even have to fight the second boss.

Exhausting the priest's dialog gave me an amulet. He talks for ages though so might break your spacebar

This boss isn't just an Axeman dude. It can also be one of those burrowing root things that shoots exploding spears and also has an INCREDIBLY annoying blackhole type effect that pulls you in, which has too large of a range making it almost impossible to get away from it. It's like half the range of the entire arena. Such a stupid "boss."

Game crashed for my friend mid fight and I died. Now the boss wont spawn, no fog gate at all and the npc just stands there. Weird bug.

I think this is a glitch but when fighting the root nexus, there's a rock you can jump on near the wreckage opposite of the building u can go in. When on top no ads will spawn allowing you to quickly kill the root nexus without anything attacking you.

For my buddy and I we got one of those worm like root enemies that burrows and shoots like explosive root porcupine needles everywhere, not a root axeman

Pace yourself when wearing down the Root Nexus, clear the ads when it does a pulse and spawns some elite enemies, pick up the ammo and wait for any abilities to recharge so you're at full strength when the Defiler spawns.
Try to keep it at the most extreme range possible and stack any damage over time that you can, this helps if you end up getting mobbed and need to just run. As soon as you get stuck in its vortex you're going to be in a world of trouble, so if you have enough DPS, you can ignore the ads and focus down the boss, it doesn't have a huge amount of health so any single shot burst and DoT abilities are very effective.
Absolute worst boss in the game. Nothing comes close. Nothing has killed me half as much as this. Kill it but die to its minions? Sucks for you, restart. Genuinely hope the person who thought this thing was a good idea loses their job.
