Remnant 2 Magister Dullain Strategy Writeup

Magister Dullain, looks like a mix between a hag and a horror. She wields a staff in her left hand and a lantern, just like any Lantern Horror in its right hand.

During the fight, some Fae may enter the battlefield to attack you.

Magister Dullain may deal both acid damage and fire damage, so be ready to use Consumables that heal those status effects, as well as having armor pieces that grant you a good resistance to those elements.

Beware of its long tongue, as its Tongue Impalement attack will result in an insta-kill if it lands.

Attacks & Counter

Attack Counter
Horror Vomit: Magister Dullain opens its gaping mouth and shoots a powerful green vomit forward. It deals acid damage. Dodge to either side.
Will O Wisp: Magister Dullain uses the lantern to shoot a fireball. It inflicts burning status. Dodge to either side.
Gravity Attack: Magister Dullain slams the ground with her staff, and bodies start flying around her. She then hurls them at you. Dodge to either side.
Tongue Impalement: Magister Dullain uses its long tongue to impale. Evade this attack at all costs, because it is an insta-kill move. Be ready to dodge

I do find it strange that they decided to give this chlamydia hermaphrodite a one shot grab attack, but tal ratha still gives you a chance after giving you the big suck and chew combo.

      • Anonymous

Not sure if this is still of interest, but it seems they changed some of the mechanics; the tongue doesn't one-shot anymore, but every hurled corpse now is an instakill (encountered the boss on Apocalypse with a tank build). The corpse that will be thrown starts to glow before it is hurled, so it's not too bad to dodge them.

It's legit bullshit that you can get it down to 5% health and just 2 hit away from killing it, and with 85% of your health left that TONGUE just insta-rob you from a sure victory.

Dont be a crybaby. Aside from the oneshot mechanic which I do and will always despite in terms of game design, the whole rest of the kit is easy enough.
As usual in remnant games, you will begin to win at the moment you step aside from your comfort build and start thinking out of the box.
Exampling myself, Wanderer's speed boost and alchemist stoneskin potion kept me away and safe, ease my repositions and undo my mistakes at taking acid status. Is it the faster way? no. But its a very easy to no-hit him the whole fight.
            Dont cry. Think

For my fellow Ritualists: this boss is completely immune to acid. Don't know why this isn't up there already.

The bosses in this game are awful, I've been playing several hours and this stupid tongue bs made me uninstall. Worst souls like I've ever played

People don't understand WHY Magister Dullain is unfair. They think people are just complaining about his tongue attack. The REAL issue with Dullain is that on Apocalypse or even Nightmare difficulty if he does a tongue attack while ALSO flinging a corpse at you you WILL probably die. You CANNOT dodge both if he uses both. Literally the only way to NOT die is to just hide behind a pillar until the corpses are gone while still peeking out to watch for the tongue attack as it CAN hit you through the pillars. A literal WASTE of time. Just staying far away isn't good enough as he WILL run at you and attempt a tongue attack which will probably lead to either the tongue or a corpse hitting or killing you.

This is entire fight is just plain boring on the one hand while also being tedious as hell and can often END a hardcore run probably more than anything else in the game.

Had to change up all my gear to beat this jerk: runed heart (with ranged damage, speed, and crit), nightfall w/ twisting wounds +10, ANKH of power, whatever damage rings you have, engineer fire turret, handler. Burn her down, hard and fast. she still tried to tonguepunch my fartbox twice but either my evade from nightfall or pure dumb luck avoided them.

This was my final boss for my hardcore run. I didnt know he could just magically one hit me. Thanks Gunfire, really cool. Third world as well.

Black Cat Band is practically useless here as even if you survive the hit that would kill you the DoT will finish you off...might as well equip something different.

In my experience, when I fight him circling left to right, the tongue attack never hit me. When I circling right to left, he hit me with insta-kill tongue. So I think we need to dodge to the right when he does the tongue attach. I might be lucky tho, need more confirmation.

yeah, lets give this boss an installkill rollcatch and instakill body fling attacks. seems balanced to me.

so i got him with skull cracker mod and not only does his tongue attack insta kill but also if you get hit with one of the bodies he throws you also instantly die. wearing full leto's mk1 and still

                              • I absolutely hate that insta-kill tongue attack. I had full health and he got me. I'm pretty sure I was out of the HITBOX. I rolled to the left when he started to strike, and the tongue just curved after me, it seems...

Normally this guy isn't too much of a problem, but I had a nasty experience with an Apocalypse roll where he got empathy, and vicious modifiers. The bodies he throws ended up overpowering my tank build and I couldn't get him below 1/4 health before I got squished. Was just an adventure roll so no big deal but wow, those suffixes can really change the direction of a fight on you.

I'm fine with most of this bosses moveset but I'm really not a fan of the insta-kill, especially since it's not even just an attack that deals enough damage to one-hit you, it's straight-up Death no matter if you've got Black Cat or the Challengers Prime Perk up.

It's not even that one-hits are always bad or something like that, in the case of the Labyrinth Guard I'm perfectly fine with it since it's 100% predictable, but just as a random move the boss can throw out at some point in the fight, with no big wind-up or warning, it just feels cheap.

                                    • Anonymous

This boss isn't anywhere near as bad as people say. It's frustrating at best. I don't understand what's so hard to just keep your distance. If you're trying to do a full melee build, I can see this being absolutely obnoxious. Both the sweep and impale can be dodged the same way, so I don't know why y'all are saying "50/50" attack. Some of you shouldn't be playing at the difficulty you're probably fighting this boss at, tbh.

                                      • Anonymous

AKA the hardcore ender. The one-shot wouldn't be so bad if the HITBOX wasn't so messed up. I know the timing on it. I've dodged it before. Yet this last run on my Challenger I dodged it as always and...it STILL hit me. People need to post on the Remnant 2 Steam forum technical issues section about the hitboxes in this game. Nightweaver has the same problem where she will hit you even when you are behind her.

Half the time you shoot at weakspots on enemies and bosses it doesn't even count, lol.

Boss was easy and the tell for the tongue attack is so obvious...didnt get hit once...was expecting hell reading these comments but best her first try

                                          • Most bosses are a disappointment compared to Remnant 1. First time i killed him i aimed for his lamp, and i thought cool just like the first game there will be alternative methods of killing bosses for different rewards, nope i was wrong, (besides world bosses so far) second time i killed without destroying his lamp and got nothing different, it's a shame. And i've come to realize all bosses seem to have a cheap one shot mechanic, the first game was tough but mostly far. I'm 60 hours into the game and i feel Remnant 1 felt better, ran better on my PC, better bosses and i really miss the armor system, guns have been meh so far, scrap has been a pain to get to even level up for new guns to try and mods, only thing this game has over the first is the archetype system. And i also really miss grinding for all the perks you can get in 1, so many to unlock and level. i had a few hundred hours into the first game and still not leveled all the perks, or got everything. At times i feel like just going back to play the first game, The Adventure mode layout system was even better, in 2 you feel like your doing the whole campaign again, instead of a bite size random part of the world.

I beat him with Summoner(10) and Explorer (1) combo. Summoned Reaver can tank him easily enough. Just circle the room taking out adds when they come and apply damage to him as you move around. Try not to get greedy and stand still for too long. Use level 1 skill "plainswalker" to move around the room. Barely got touched. I understand both of these are not starting Archetypes so I can imagine it not being so easy without the distraction.

This boss is so so bad. He has a 50/50 where if you guess wrong you instantly die. His tongue slash and his tongue stab have the same startup animation, and if you dodge early to dodge the slash you get grabbed by the stab and you die instantly. Absurdly bad game design. I think having 50/50s is dumb, but one this punishing too?? Wtf were they thinking?

                                                • Anonymous

This thing has 2 different tongue attacks: Sweep and Impalement. Sweep does damage, but doesn't kill the player instantly. Impalement, on the other hand, is an instant death and pierces any death prevention effect. If the boss can't reach you with it, it will run towards you fast, so watch out.

                                                  • Anonymous

The one hit kill mechanic on this boss is terrible. Mine rolled with Hearty and the boss fights for me have been 15 minutes of mindlessly unloading clips without any real chance of dying and then getting hit by the one hit kill through a pillar, it's really killed the momentum I had going with this game.

It's possible that you must fight him before getting the item needed to use on the web to get to Nightweaver's boss fight.

Was fighting him with my friend and we were like, "HOW IS HE HEALING??!" We thought it was one of his attacks, it turns out when you heal; he heals. So don't heal if you don't want him to regen his own life back.
