Weapons in Remnant 2 are the player's main means of damage against Enemies and Bosses. Players are presented with a variety of base weapons to choose from: Handguns, which included pistols and sub-machine guns, Long Guns, which included shotguns and rifles, and Melee Weapons, which were used in direct hand-to-hand combat. Weapons can be obtained as loot at the end of some dungeons, from dead Enemies, or purchased from some Merchants. Remnant 2 Weapons can undergo upgrades to enhance their damage, which, in turn, also affects any attached Weapon Mod they have.
How to Upgrade Remnant 2 Weapons?
Upgrading Weapons requires players to visit Rigs, one of the many Merchants in Remnant 2. Players will meet Rigs as part of the tutorial and can find him in Ward 13 to enhance gear. To proceed with the upgrades, players must gather specific Materials obtained from defeating Enemies, looting chests, and completing Quests and Events.
Playes can upgrade their Regular Weapons up to +5 using regular Iron. However, to advance beyond +5, you'll need Forged Iron instead. As you progress further, even rarer types of Iron will be essential for subsequent upgrades, such as Galvanized Iron starting at +10 and Hardened Iron starting at +15. Upgrading regular weapons requires 40 of each type of Iron total (40 Iron, 40 Forged Iron, so on).
Reaching the maximum rank of +20 for your weapon requires a Simulacrum. You can obtain this crucial item from Cass in Ward 13 in exchange for 1,500 Scrap. The Simulacrum is specifically needed to upgrade a weapon from +19 to +20, the pinnacle of its potential.
For Special Boss Weapons, the upgrade process is similar, but they max out at +10 instead of +20. In addition to Scrap and Iron, upgrading these unique weapons requires Lumenite Crystals. Rigs can handle the upgrades for these special weapons as well. Upgrading special weapons requires 30 Iron, and 35 of each subsequent type of Iron total.
A helpful tip is that if you find a weapon you already possess or collect a boss material that McCabe has already transformed into a weapon, it will add a +1 modifier to the item. This means you can use duplicate weapons or boss materials to further upgrade them, saving valuable resources and ensuring your arsenal remains potent in the face of formidable challenges.
Note that you lose 25% of materials(rounded to the least integer and 50% of scrap when you downgrade any weapon.
and for convenience here is a table explaining what each level needs:
Remnant 2 Mutators
Remnant 2 Mutators are a distinct category of items that hold the remarkable power to greatly enhance your Weapons. These special items introduce additional statistics or passive abilities that can significantly bolster your arsenal, making them invaluable assets throughout your journey.
Most Weapons, including Special Weapons, features a dedicated Mutator slot, granting you the freedom to customize and optimize your combat strategies to suit your playstyle and preferences. Mutators play a vital role in the gameplay experience, allowing players to equip their Weapons with unique special effects, thereby presenting a diverse range of possibilities for crafting personalized combat strategies.
How to obtain Weapons in Remnant 2?
There are many ways to acquire Weapons in Remnant 2. Much like in Remnant: From the Ashes Players can find them as loot from Enemies, Bosses or buy them from Merchants. Brabus, the Arms dealer, a former boss in the previous game, acts as a merchant in the early game. Players can also use Crafting Materials to craft weapons as well as upgrade them to increase their damage. Crafting Materials can be found in various Locations, loot from Enemies, or Bosses, as well as bought from Merchants.
Remnant 2 Weapon Mods
Weapon Mods in Remnant 2 are components that provide active abilities for use during combat encounters. These mods allow players to execute powerful actions such as launching projectiles, creating defensive barriers, summoning allies, or dealing area-of-effect damage.
Some Weapon Mods are permanently attached to specific Weapons and cannot be removed or replaced. However, players can acquire additional mods by purchasing or crafting them from McCabe and then attaching them to weapons with available mod slots.
To charge a Weapon Mod, players must land hits on enemies using the associated weapon. The mod's icon will display a charge counter if it can hold multiple charges. Mod Power can also be obtained through various means, including Traits, Armor, Amulets, and Rings. Using Checkpoint Crystals will fully recharge most mods. However, when swapping mods on a weapon, they will be completely emptied and require charging before use. It is advisable to swap mods and/or weapons at a Checkpoint Crystal for convenience.
Once a mod is fully charged, players can activate its effects by pressing the cast button, with activation methods varying between mods. Some Weapon Mods are instantly cast, while others require holding down the cast button to lock onto targets. Additionally, many mods serve as alternative firing methods for equipped weapons. Activating these mods switches the firing mode, enabling manual aiming and firing of the mod's specific ability.
Loadouts in Remnant 2
Loadouts are a new feature added with the patch released on October 27th. This allows players to create a gear preset and then recall it with a single button press, reducing the whole process to mere seconds. This includes Weapons, Mods, Mutators, Archetypes, Skills, Relics, Fragments, etc. Loadouts will also save and recall Traits, but will only recall them if you have the Orb of Undoing in your inventory.
Loadouts cannot be used in combat.
Weapon Categories in Remnant 2
Hand Guns
A secondary weapon, and first alternative to Long Guns. Hand Guns are guns that work best at mid to close-range combat.
Long Guns
The primary weapon Archetypes wield. Long Guns can vary from blasting close-range Shotguns to long-range precision-based Rifles.
Melee Weapons
Melee weapons are visceral equipment for players that aren't afraid to get dirty in hand-to-hand combat. Swords, Hammers, Machetes and more are available in Remnant 2

New Special Long gun Thorn: In order to get it, you must see the kuri kuri egg in the forest, but do not pick it up, leave it there and continue playing like normal. Once you reach the Luminous Vale, you can return to that area to see the kuri kuri bird, which when you walk up to it, it will vomit the crafting material needed to create Thorn. Easily one of the best weapons currently IMO.

I think everything about Remnant II is improved from Remnant except guns and mods.
In Remnant 1
HG: Curse ot Jungle God the scoped pistol and infinite overloaded explosion build; Hive Cannon and Pride of Iskal explosion pistol is fun
LG: Devastator meat harpoon feels so good to use; Scoped Ruin pretty neat; Eyes of the Storm my fav; Old time Fusion Rifle was cool
Ifl Remnant II guns aren't as fun. Melees are better fs. Most LG shots the same feel the same. Charge for burst fire is...sad. Most of the mod doesn't do anything cool just messing with numbers. There's no shooting electric tentacles, explosive flies, bleed harpoon etc. All my old-time fav isn't here. Some changed but not to a better version. There isn't a new gun that could replace all my fav guns...
Not only that, now fighting world bosses like finishing a whole world to only get like one special melee, other than that it's just mods and mods.
While the mods were just numbers like hot shot corrosive round fargazer is technically the same. Some mods just mark and detonate numbers. Remember having blink token and stormcaller base game? Breath of the desert and radioactive volley? Riftwalker? Where are the cool mods here?
Idk. I finished the main campaign and a couple of times adventure still using the M1 with hotshot from the beginning just couldn't find much weapon to play with. And being short on resources just makes it worse.

40 Melee weapons, 22 Handguns and 30 Long Guns. Doenst looks balanced to me! :(

cost of a regular weapon upgrade is 200 + 20 * number of upgrade levels for each level. Doing some simple math that would be 200 x 20 + ((20*21)/2 x20) = 8200 scrap for a regular weapon to max level.
Special weapons appear to be 450 + 75 number of upgrade levels, making the final scrap cost at 10= 8625

There appears to be a hidden pistol called Anguish with the DLC. Its related to the haunted manor event in the awakened king DLC. From what I've heard it requires triggering the event but using liquid escape to leave instead, then finding a Dran and talking to them in every world. Then using an item to travel to a special map to collect a crafting material.

Why is gas giant listed as both a normal and special melee weapon? I'd assume it's supposed to be in special only. It's also in the wrong spot in the special melee weapons, assuming it's going by alphabetical order.

I'm very disappointed with the weapons and armor in this game. Both weapons and armor are very lackluster with not even that many choices. Most of the model designs are fugly too. Really hope they add kick it up a notch in DLCs.
Jokes on you all, the first DLC trailer actually shows a "Dark Sickle".
It might get real, after all.

I thought the Fake Dark Scythe was well... Fake, but I found it in losomn behind a big pallet. You're not supposed to get to it. My guess is that it's intended as a DLC. Not sure.
It's really making my game lag, wouldn't suggest getting it yet. Cool find

Weird how the weapons you start out with can pretty much last you the whole game.
It’s almost like everything’s perfectly balanced and the only reason you’d use anything in particular is purely preference.

Game is great, and something feels bad about weapons. I started with the Blackmaw AR-47 and leveled it up all the way to 20 - every few levels I searched for other weapons to go too... and nothing comes close. The AR + the MP60-R you can get right off the bat are literally the only shooters needed to have a fantastic short and long range game. Weapons with bigger clips either overheat, suck at range, or take longer to reload than the AR, and the MP60 literally feels like it deletes mobs at close-mid range.
Wish there was a reason to upgrade besides novelty.

Me and a Friend found “Decayed Claws” in the root dream world
- Anonymous
Sporebloom and the Smoulder sword can be bought from Brabus after finishing the story.
- Anonymous
Found a pair of claws from Root Earth called “Decayed Claws” flavour text is “The roots corruptive influence has made these claws stronger, more effective. Their former owner was not so lucky.” Followed by the narrator text “The cores, both old and new, struggled against the corruption in similar ways and with similar probabilities of success. A detailed investigation reveals that the differences between the two were negligible. Earths success against the corruption was simply a matter of probability”
“Makeshift claws fashioned from decayed root and rusted metal”
They are found after entering the ship area before the second miniboss in root earth and jumping down off of a root onto a ledge then ducking under and following a thicket of root down a long trail.

if only they bring back all the special wepons from Remnant 1 and the wepons mods, they were so good, and the wepons design look so much better. A lot of the special wepons in remnant 2 just don't feel that special, want more elemental mods.

As of this post Remnant from the Ashes: Small Arms 12, Long Arms 17, and Melee 20. While Remnant II: Small Arms 20, Long Arms 22, Melee 34. So there is definitely a bump in the amount of weapons, I do expect the list to increase a few over the next few days.
