Remnant 2 The One True King Strategy Writeup
The titular One True King is the main boss of The Awakened King DLC. He resides in Losomn and when players meet him for the first time in the Chamber of the Faithless, he offers them the possibility to side with him by killing Nimue. If players reject that option, they will have to fight him.
The tyrant ruler is a hulking creature that towers among players and wields a makeshift hammer with Fae bodies, that players can shoot to destroy. The One True King uses the hammer for many powerful attacks, but he also relies on magic attacks. Regardless of his size, he can teleport around the battlefield, so players shouldn't be overconfident of his lack of mobility.
A roughly 70% of his health, The One True King will gain the ability to summon a Dran Horde, becoming invulnerable and bombarding the field with energy pillars. If the players do not manage to kill all Dran, the King will consume them, gaining charges to use his other special attacks. The amount of charges can be seen as fire on his chest, and as long as he has any at all his body glows green.
Helping the One True King
If players decide to side with The One True King, he will grant the Rod of Retribution and ask them to slay Nimue, who in this storyline is chained. After players finally kill Nimue and tell the King the good news, he will fight them regardless, claiming that it is only a matter of time until they set on killing him.
If, however, players decide to not kill Nimue after talking to her, she will grant them Nimue's Vow, and after fighting the king, it will change into Nimue's Blood-Marred Vow
Attacks & Counter
Attack | Counter |
1-2 Hammer Combo: The One True King hits the ground twice with his hammer. The second attack stucks him for a short period. | Dodge twice and seize that small window to deal damage. |
Hammer Slam: He slams the hammer on the ground, dealing damage in an area around him. | Try to stay away from him to prevent the AOE damage. |
Fae Beam: The One True King fires a red beam from his gaping mouth for a few seconds. | As soon as he shoots, start dodging and keep doing it until the attack is over. |
Shockwave Stomp: The King stomps with his foot, sending a shockwave forward. This may be performed twice in a row.
Special Attacks (<70% Health)
Dran Horde: The One True King becomes invulnerable and floats, repeatedly creating Fae Pillars on the ground, while also summoning common Dran to overwhelm you. If any Dran remain alive when the attack ends, he consumes them and gains charges for his other special attacks. | Evade the pillars and fight to stay alive during this attack, once it is over he will kill the Dran himself. He will also recover some health after this attack. |
Double Hammer Slam: He slams his hammer twice. The second slam is much bigger and also sends pillars of Fae energy moving outward. | Stay as far as possible and be ready to dodge the Fae energy pillars. The Pillars move sightly slower than the shockwave, so be careful not to dodge into them. |
Vortex Slam: He kneels and begins to charge a hammer slam, continuously pulling players towards him. After a moment, he slams the hammer down, inflicting damage and leaving a burning area.
Fae Pillars: He raises his hammer, summoning Fae Pillars around himself. |
Remnant 2 The One True King Notes & Trivia and Gallery
- Dealing enough damage to his weapon will free a fae knight, which will teleport up and stab the king in the back of the neck, forcing him to take a knee while dealing with it. This gives you an opening to get some easy shots on his mouth.
- If the finishing blow is dealt by one of the freed knights, you will be able to obtain his hammer as a melee weapon.

It feels pretty easy on solo. It's a cool fight, though, and what I thought to be kinda fun. I'd rather have something that's cool and fun, over something just... frustrating. Also, it was pretty cool that "breaking" the hammer frees a Fae Knight that helps out by briefly stunning and harming him, before dying just as fast. Sorta wish you could get a few to survive after the fact, but hey.

So many c*** jockies downvoting just because they cannot git gud hahaha No.. srsly.. git gud

Doing a nightmare coop run with a friend who just bought the game and I was not expecting for the DLC to be the first area we started in. Kind of a joke of a world boss lmao

This boss feels like it was designed with Co-op in mind, hence why it feels a bit underwhelming Solo imo. When Solo he goes down faster than a lot of mini-bosses. Admittedly the Fae Knights you free can help a lot, but even still, he seems to have surprisingly low HP.
In Co-op however not only is his HP increased, so is his damage, and he even summons Elite Enemies during his invulnerable phase. All of his attacks become much scarier because nearly all of them can 1-2 tap a tank build on Nightmare/Apocalypse, especially if he gets buffed up from killing the Dran himself and suddenly starts throwing out arena wide explosions that 1-shot you.
Fight feels like a lot more of a struggle in co-op and I'm all for it!

YOU CAN GET MULTIPLE REWARDS. Got the reward for wearing the ring, Nimue's blood vow, and hammer kill, in one run... hope that helps people not have to rerun the story so many times thinking they are limited to one item per boss kill and therefore missing out... I was pleasantly surprised to see all the rewards I got post kill. Hope this helps you out.

Been trying to get the agony spike by not destroying his hammer and keep getting the pommel. There’s more to the drop than is mentioned.

So many casuals downvoting the comments saying this boss is easy. IT NEEDS TO BE HARDER.

Bought the game played it for the first time and this was the first boss that got presented to me in the game. Killed him because he tried to command me around. Didn't know I just beat the dlc 15 minutes into trying out the game.
for the all powerful king of supposedly everything, a pretty lack luster fight... Faelin/Faerin was a lot better of a fight with more mechanics.

a bit easy overall, but the spectacle of the fight is fantastic

They need to rework him. He feels like a slow plodding Dark Souls 1 boss. Really need to feel like a fast paced REMNANT boss.

This boss is fun but its a bit too easy on apocalypse. Even the twin bosses of lossom harder.

The fun I had beating this man to a pulp is only second to Annihilation. And it only is because The One True King does not keep his distance very well. He has distance damage fall-off advantage against ranged builds, but I literally toe-stabbed him to death on Apoc with the same sniper build. Anni is slow too, but she does not let bugs get close for long enough to get stabbed to death between attacks.

So put on all 4 items listed, he mentioned them saying how he almost admired how much I was mocking him wearing them, but then just took me to the fight and when I killed him I only got the ring, nothing else new

*Fae will occasionally teleport in and stab the king in the back of the neck, forcing him to take a knee while dealing with them. This gives you an opening to get some easy shots on his mouth.* looool What a bull **** info. It is not "occasionally". Breaking his the hammer is acualy just freeing the Fey Knight on hammer. That is when Knight jumps on King, stabs him in the back and while that is going on you get free attacks.

This boss and the entire dlc is in a really weird spot balancing wise since it technically is just another Losomn roll. It feels kind of underwhelming fighting him after beating the game, but it´s not like they can really do anything else with this approach they´ve chosen. I assume we´ll get dlc for the two other worlds in the same vein, but I´m really hoping for some sort of expansion beyond that that picks up after the end of the game maybe? Unless they want to save that for Remnant 3 I suppose.

So, can someone share their thoughts on the fate of Losomn after this guy is gone? I assume the OTK we encounter is not the original one, but the root-resurrected, infected version, similar to what happened to Guardians of other worlds. He DID get killed by the traitors and the dreamless sleep he mentions, was actually root taking over.
My guess is that root OTK wanted the Fae gone not only because of their traitorous violent tendencies, but also because it'd be more difficult for the root to overtake the world populated by creatures who consider fighting as essential as breathing. Dran on the other hand, would quickly fall under root control, if they haven't already, seeing how some of them became sort of hive-mindy.
And what about Nimue? She's kinda shady, as some of the lines related to her make it sound like she was responsible for the Fae-Dran situation to some extent. Is she a new Guardian? Was the "good ending" Dran Seamstress mentions the reign of Nimue? What can she even do?

What happens if you wear all the items he doesn't like all at once?

If you want this boss melee wepon: It is not about destroying hammer 5 times or what ever. It is about destroying hammer when boss has like 5% or even less HP left so that Fey Knight that is strapped on hammer gets free and does a finishing blow on the King. That is when you get this. So again remember if you want this: King need to die by Fey Knight killing blow.
That is how I did it.

In the comments: Capital Gamers whining about how this boss is too easy after beating him on Survivor after no-lifing Apocalypse difficulty for 2 months. Why can't the boss just be impossible on Survivor difficulty guys? How disappointing that he melted to my God build that I've been working on for 2 months. REEEEEE

boss is broken way too easy, why does literally every other boss have 10x more up than him
- Anonymous
I really liked the fight but I was hoping for 2 phases. He's the one true King, not an imposter.
- Anonymous
he also mention the fae protectorit sigil, he may mention any trators items, so the question is how can we get one item from every traitor on the player charactor.
- Anonymous
Had Burden of the Divine on and he mentioned it and got pissed off that by wearing it I was mocking him and some sacred blah blah blah. We said we would kill him, and before fighting us he stopped to yell about me having the ring on. Didn't see it mentioned on the page anywhere.

Our game must have bugged out or something, because the king was an absolute pushover. Previous bosses in the DLC were as challenging as you would expect, took several tries, but the king literally fell over. We kept shooting his big hammer which dealt a ton of damage once it broke, and he kept respawning it. It only took destroying the hammer maybe 5 times before he died. He didn't do most of his moves - probably because the fight took maybe 60 seconds and half of that was him summoning his hammer back. Again the other bosses were fine and it was fun trying to learn their moves and kill them, so it was disappointing that the last boss seemingly bugged out.

Boss is very fun and well designed but it's disappointingly easy. Easily cleared it first try on Apoc. The DLC was fun because it's Losomn but this was easily their weakest DLC they've ever released, the story wasn't good and the fights weren't really all that challenging. I liked the Corsus Queen much better as a giant endgame boss. Hopefully they deliver better on their next DLC.

If you come back to his Throne Room after paying tribute to Red Prince, the Red Prince will be there and proclaim himself as the Red King.
I've seen videos were he also summons Fae Penitents along with the Dran, don't know if that is based on difficulty or squadsize though.

I believe I found how to actually get the pommel. When you break his hammer, one of the Fae strapped to it is freed and will damage and stagger the king. To get the pommel you have to let this damage be the killing blow on the king. So just get his health real low, and then break his hammer, I only broke it once and it worked for me.
- Anonymous
if you break the hammer during the fight you will recieve the Pummel if you just kill him the Spike
- Anonymous
Man, Tormentor's Pommel seems tough. it says he'll regenerate his hammer eventually but when i broke the hammer he had it back in about 5 seconds.
- Anonymous
Also burden of the divine, he'll have extra dialogue and you'll get another burden type ring
- Anonymous
Got Tormentors Pummel withour having any of the mentioned Items equipped. Once again the "wikI" is just wrong
TRAITORS FOR MY SKEWERS! He is the Rykard for this game.
