The Best Tips for Gwendil: The Unburnt

  • There are numerous puddles of oil around arena.
  • During this encounter, Gwendil loves to stand and look menacingly at player. Use that window to score few hits to her weakspot.
  • If you shoot Gwendil's bomb with the Enigma weapon mod, her bomb will explode with every tick, either killing her or taking a massive chunk out of her health and stunlocking her
    • Any Electricity-based weapon/skill should do the job as fine as Enigma.

Gwendil is Dran that fights from a vantage point and throws grenades to the player. She is not the only threat you will face here, minions will spawn alongside her. Mostly common Dran.

Her explosives deal Burning damage, so it is advisable to bring a good amount of resistance against that status.

You can't melee her, since she is up in a platform from which she shoots at you. Remove the mobs first and once she is by herself, the best moment to hit her is when she is about to prepare her grenade. You will have limited time to do this, since more minions will eventually spawn.

A good way to deal damage to her, is to shoot the grenade she is preparing. This will make it blow up and deal damage.

Beware of her grenade rain attack, in which instead of one grenade, she throws five or so grenades. Broadening her range by a significant margin. She will mostly perform this attack after you blow up a grenade she's preparing.

Attacks & Counter

Attack Description Counter
Grenade Gwendil throws a single grenade at your location. Move around the battlefield, don't stand still. Can be shot when she is preparing it, to blow it up in her hand and deal damage.
Grenade Cluster Gwendil leans backwards and throws 5 grenades at the same time, covering a wider area than her single grenade attack. As soon as she leans backwards, don't stand still. Move as much as possible to remain away from the blast

Worst fight I encounteret in this game... they made such an improvement with the boss fights from the bad design in the first game where it was just spam of adds and little guy in the middle calling himself a boss, so why would they come back to this BS design of a bossfight
just 1 small mf who has 10x more health than any boss I killed up to this point, every hit is grey dmg, spams adds who drain my hp just by running to me without actually hitting me and keep on throwing bombs...
on nightmare I empty all my ammo to her face and she still has like 55% hp (and why is she immune to the rot cloud dmg from my mod I just dont get)... this is just bad and lazy desing...

Wanna know what is funny? Boss was actually MINORLY a threat when the grenade was bugged for a while and you couldn't shoot it. Now she is once again probably the easiest boss in the game.

If you shoot one of the Chaos Driver links from the Enigma weapon at her bomb she will continuously explode over and over. pretty much ending the boss fight with a single shot

This boss is a clever, veiled Dark Souls reference. In Dark Souls, namely the first one, there were a lot of Hollows that stood on a ledge high up, and threw firebombs at the player, much like this boss. Then there's the name, "Gwendil" in Dark Souls, the lord of fire/Sunlight, is called Gwyn, and his lineage follows a similar name scheme, for example, Gwyndolyn/Gwendolyn, and the other two I forgot the names of. Plus Losonm feels like a huge Dark Souls/Bloodborne reference as a whole

The fight isn't difficult, but it's rather annoying as she stands on a platform above you and sometimes you just can't see her at all
