Defrag is a Weapon Mod in Remnant 2. Defrag infects the weapon with malicious code, causing shots to fragment enemies and generate glitches that augment damage.

Defrag can be socketed into any Weapon that has an available Weapon Mod slot.

Once equipped, the Defrag  Mod bestows the following effect upon the Weapon it is attached to:

      This mod really should cause an orb to drop "near the player" and "after x% of the magazine is expended" or something like that. I really, really don't like on kill mods generally speaking due to their reliability problems, and we're working to get a 5 second 20% damage buff here. It's really, really weak.

      • Confirmed that it also gives a 15% ranged damage increase (when testing if you compare before and after activating the mod it'll seem lower than 15% but that's due to how damage buffs are calculated). Edited the page to mention this, since it makes this mod much better than it appears on paper. Especially if running Ahanae Crystal with Sparkfire Shotgun since Hot Shot won't give you an additional status for more damage, while Defrag will.

          Fun fact, this mod alongside the other elemental mods automatically reload your weapons on use. Very useful for weapons with long reloads.

            My biggest gripe with this otherwise fun and unique mod is that you won't see an orb drop from an enemy you tagged with malware if they die from anything other than the modded weapon's primary fire. Status effects don't count, not even kills from a virus pool itself will work! Very frustrating.

            As a small unmentioned bonus to the mod however, it does seem to increase the damage of the modded weapon's primary fire a bit so it actually does have some use even in boss fights!

              One downside to this mod is its effect only occurs when enemies die, so against bosses it's not all that useful.

                Drops from the boss in Ashen Wasteland. It reminds me of Warmind Cells from Destiny 2. It's nice, does a lot of things despite the hefty power cost.
