What i like about this baby is that it tends to hold just enough ammo to clear an encounter without needing to reload. And as a gunslinger, you can reload the weapon for free with the perks and even some powers, but you also recover power quickly from the sheer rate of fire gunslinger gets giving you more free reloads, this excel at bossing, life leech, and just raw damage in such a way simply no other guns can. Throw in the momentum mutator and now you have 30% ++ crit damage/chance to further bolster your own life leech and killing speed , throw in more fire rate sources or crit Chance sources to really compound those effects and you'll melt everything.

Using this waist deep in water running through the jungle made me feel like I was in Nam.

Slapped the hot shot on this and never looked back on my first playthrough - it's super accurate and shreds. Seems to hit hotspots a lot easier than other weapons. The only downside is that I ran out of ammo often but with Gunslinger it's a solid A tier IMO.

Comparing this with the Chicago Typewriter is like comparing the Bastard Sword to the Claymore; or the Longsword to the Lothric SS/Balder SS.
In other words they're different in the most miniscule of ways, but ultimately fulfil the same spectrums and are just general workhorse weapons that will easily support you all the way up to Apocalypse Annihilation.
If you wanna really lean into the tryhard-gamer optimization, the Chicago typewriter is better in terms of peak dps compared to the Blackmaw, BUT the slower reload on the typewriter means for sustained dps Blackmaw pulls ahead and maintains better numbers over a longer period of time.
Again, this is really in hair splitting territory; you're talking about 100-150 difference in dps on the range.(assuming both these guns are maxed out at +20)
The Blackmaw does more damage per bullet, has better range and accuracy, and just generally kicks a bit less than the Chicago when you're holding down the trigger. This translates to it generally having a better 'feel' across the board when you're just running through maps and mobbing. The Chicago has a bigger magazine and bigger ammo total, but in practice I've found I generally run out of ammo around the same time as I would be with the Blackmaw, so again, negligible differences.
Chicago has a better fire rate, which means if you're fishing for procs and elemental setups reliant on fire rate, the Chicago will do the job a fair bit better in that regard.
In conclusion the two are essentially very similar and perform pretty much the same in practice, so it really is up to you which you prefer. A tommy gun has a classic popular appeal for a good reason, and this is no different in Remnant 2. There is fun to be had in just holding down the trigger and being an absolute bullet hose with the Chicago, but the comfortable, reliable 'feel' of the Blackmaw definitely has its own appeal; just like how there is an appeal in slaying the Soul of Cinder with just the humble Longsword.

People say the gun is boring, but they also forget about the 12 or so mods they can put on it, fire and corrosive bullets, concussive shots, aoe explosive shots, single damage targeting mods, traps and a couple more
This gun is awesome because being simple and having options is all you need.

Honestly having a hard time finding another Long Gun with an open Mod Slot that compares. My Beastmaster build doesn't have ring slots open to devote to reload speed, range, weakspot/critical damage, etc. and this gun just works no matter what stats you have.

you don't need fancy magic, there's nothing cannot be solved with a full magazine of bullets, if there is just dump 5 magazines

For when you don’t want to accept any substitutes other than this gun.

Solid workhorse gun, boring as hell, doesn't excel at anything other than putting rounds downrange.
Having some decent fun dropping the deployable shield and my engineer turret behind it while shooting, feels like being your own mini fortress.

the reason that this gun can be better than nightfall is you can put custom mods on it, I made corrosive bullet with the amulet and ring buff it shreds

Extremely solid all-rounder gun, at least for the base campaign. Large mag, alright damage, good range and accuracy with little spread. It even has a pretty good reload speed. The only downside is a slowish firing speed for an automatic weapon makes it a bit weaker for bursting down enemies. Pairs super well with just about any secondary since it covers just about everything with good effectiveness.
Really good but you absolutely need handling maxed out, I literally get a headache from this gun's recoil. I recommend just using Bonesaw until Root Earth
