Remnant 2 Barkskin Notes & Trivia

  • Traits are unique passive abilities that provide bonuses and buffs to a player. There are three types of Traits in the game.
  • Core Traits are common for all four Classes, and are unlocked as soon as you begin the game.
  • Archetype or Class Traits, are locked behind their respective Archetypes, and only one can be equipped one at a time, unless you have the ability to combine any two of your Archetypes.
  • The third type, called simply Traits can be equipped by any Class, but have to be unlocked. Unique Archetype Traits can be leveled up as you level up the corresponding Archetype. On the other hand, the rest require Trait Points in order to be upgraded. Note that they cap at level 10.

I respecced during my Apocalypse run. I have medium armor (around 33% DR) and figured Barkskin and Shadeskin along with some DR accessories would help me not get 1-shot. I was wrong.

So FYI, your tankiness in Apocalypse isn't a dynamic scale like the armor ranges (light, medium, heavy, too heavy) would have you believe. It's a binary: Run the Leto / 80% DR etc. build, or you die in 1 shot. That's it, there's nothing inbetween. So ignore these trash traits and invest into just not getting hit in the first place, or using skills or the Black Cat Band to be able to afford the occasional strike.

I know this doesn't really matter much but if I'm like 8 on vigor and 8 on barkskin, which should I dump my remaining points in? Which is better?

pre-patch 384,210 Barkskin used to be an additive +% reduction as per the trait description. e.g if you had 50% DR from armor, rank 10 barkskin would bring you up to 75% DR

Post patch it is multiplicative from the armor DR value. Rank 10 in the trait will multiply the armor DR value by 1.15.

Adding the +DR relic fragment makes things even more confusing, as it doesn't even seem to be multiplicative off the armor DR value. adding the +5% mythic DR relic fragment brings an armor DR of 55.5 to a total DR of 57.7% instead of the 58.2% it should be (55.5 * 1.05)

Scales multiplicatively with DR from armor, making it much worse for heavy armor builds. For Example at 60% DR from armor you only get 4% extra (10% of remaining damage after reduction from armor) for a total of 64% instead of 70% total.

I'm curious if it's more worth it to dump trait points into this (damage reduction) or health. I'd dump into both, but this game is very limiting on trait points compared to the last.

Just a FYI, if you have the ring, you will get totally different options for her. I cleared the zone and came back to talk to her (for the first time) and ended up giving her the ring back from her sister?
She instead of giving me either trait, she gave me a hand crossbow for a secondary. I am not sure if i won out there, but i did pick all friendly options as well. YMMV.

There are no wrong answers to her questions. If you answer with the more aggressive answers then you'll be rewarded with Bloodstream instead of Barkskin. Bloodstream increases your grey health regen rate by 0.3 (+0.3/L) to a maximum of 3/s at 10th level.

To get the this trait you need to talk to Meidra in Yaesha (the NPC that lives in the big glowing trree). You need to choose the altruistic answers.

You get it from choosing more peaceful answers from Meidra in Yaesha when she gives you a pop quiz personality test.
