Anguish is a Hand Gun and one of the available Weapons in Remnant 2. Anguish is medium-range shotgun, capable of charging its shots to fire a devastating explosive rod. It is a brand new Hand Gun debuting in the Remnant 2 The Awakened King DLC.
Malicious intent is usually masked behind a façade of beaty, necessity, or perhaps simple distraction. The Dran, however, are a curious sort. Their little toys and machinations make no attempt to hide their cruel intentions.
How to Get Anguish in Remnant 2
Anguish can be crafted at McCabe Store with:
- x1 Occult Vessel
- x7 Lumenite Crystal
- x1000 Scrap
To obtain the material, players have to complete the following steps (any step except Root Earth can be done either in campaign or adventure mode):
- Play on campaign mode up to Root Earth. Do note that it needs to be a POST-DLC run, if you had completed the campaign before you bought and installed the DLC, it won't work.
- Reach Ethereal Manor Event. and complete it by using the Liquid Escape or Fruit of Death.
- From now on, in order to get Anguish, you must NOT die.
- If you do, you will have to repeat the whole process from this point in a new campaign/adventure.
Because you cannot restart the Ethereal Manor Event (i.e., if you return to the manor you will NOT find the Dran waiting for you) you will need to re-roll the campaign/adventure until you find a new, suitable world. - If you're playing through this questline with several people in your party and one person dies they will NOT be able to continue (they will NOT find the Dran in the expected places) but the players that have not yet died CAN continue the quest (they will keep seeing the Dran and be able to talk to the Dran)
- Head to Ward 13 and you will find a Dran there. He can be found by the Ward Gate, where Ford takes you at the start of the game. Talk to him. From now on, you will have to find this Dran in multiple locations.
- Head to Yaesha, to The Red Throne waypoint. Go to the first building on the right. He can be found down the stairs at the end. Talk to him again.
- Head to the Labyrinth (Fractured Ingress waypoint), and find him once again, this time, he is on top of the bridge behind the big portal.
- Go to the N'erud world that contains the Forgotten Prison area. Talk to the Dran in the chamber just before Tal'Ratha's boss fight. You will have to complete the first dungeon in order to reach The Eon Vault.
- Head to the Ashen Wasteland checkpoint in Root Earth. You will have to find the Dran again. This time, he can be found after the trainyard siege, by the fence.
- Go to the Losomn world starting at Marrow Parish to the Tormented Asylum waypoint (you will have to progress the world until the last boss fight), and you will find the dran there, left of the portal to the nightmare world. Talk to him to receive Dran's Dream.
- Use the Dran's Dream, to get teleported to the Forgotten Null. You can pick up the Occult Vessel material there. You can talk to the Dran one last time if you want.
- Head back to Ward 13 and talk to McCabe. She can use the Occult Vessel to craft Anguish.
Suggestion for finding a suitable campaign
Reviewing the steps above you'll notice that the only world with multiple ( 2 ) places to talk to the Dran is Losomn (the Ethereal Manor and the Tormented Asylum). One strategy for finding a single campaign that contains all the necessary worlds would be to repeated re-roll the campaign until you start at Morrow Parish, then play through until you determine that the world contains a 'Burning Streets' map, and only if both of those conditions are met proceed on to check if N'erud and Yaesha start with the appropriate maps.

Remnant 2 Anguish Notes & Trivia
- True to its name, this weapon is nothing more or less than a harbinger of anguish. It hurts to hold, but given what it does to those on the receiving end of its fury, that seems fair price to pay.
- Fires 6 slugs on Primary Shots. Charged Primary Shot will fire single rod which deals FIRE damage and explodes after 1.5s.
- While Charging Primary Shots, will convert 9 Health to Grey Health per second.
- Hand Guns round up the players' arsenal, providing them with a shorter-range variation to Long Guns. They can be crafted from items dropped by specific Bosses, rewarded from events and some are sold by Merchants.
- Updated with the release of The Forgotten Kingdom DLC. Check Patch Notes for more information.
- Reduced Base Damage from 105 to 92
- Reduce Charge Time to Perfect Shot
- Reduced Ideal Range from 18m to 16m
- MOD: Forces Auto Reload on activate if any rounds are available
- MOD: Increased Mod Requirement from 500 to 915
- MOD: Adjusted low health damage boost curve
- MOD: Added text regarding damage bonus to lower HP enemies
- MOD: Fixed improper scaling of Explosive Damage modifiers

1st attempt: Got the Putrid Domain, fell down elevator shaft.
2 attempt: Got Putrid Domain again, summons decided, “you got this” and didn’t enter boss arena with me. Dead.
3rd attempt: Got The Hatchery, almost died, but managed to get to the Dran and finally got the weapon.
TLDR: This weapon truly was an anguish to get.

Does this mean you have to reroll campaign and pray you get the correct world permutations, otherwise you can't obtain it? If that's the case then **** that ****.
- Anonymous
But let's be honest. This isn't the real loot. The real loot is the foreshadowing plot exposition we got along the way.

On a fire build, this slaps and can replace your long gun. With talisman of the sun, red ring of death, singed ring, sequenced shot and the ritualist archetype you can rapid fire the bolt for over 2k dmg per shot not including the burn dot. You can easily hit 3200 DPS with reload and ammo being the hanging point. Take gunslinger as the prime and you don't have to worry about either with bullet storm.
It's honestly incredibly powerful, if you build around it. Not a casual carry weapon, but with that load out sparkfire as the long gun makes sense, b/c it builds into the same dmg with firestorm as the mod...
I still haven't figured out how to make the anguish mod make good, though. It hits like a limp noodle no matter what I do.
- Anonymous
Just a reminder. If you get the Gilded Chambers in Losomn in step 8, don't forget you have to kill the Red Prince. If you pay him three coins as tribute you'll still die and jave to start the process all over again.
- Anonymous
everyone keeps thinking of this as an unbalanced gimmick weapon, but the gimmick in question and frankly the name points to it being a CHALLENGE weapon like the admiral's ring, meant to be at least difficult if not painful to use. a gun for masochists, not build nerds
- Anonymous
It has 210 damage now at lvl 10. Even so its not really worth it imo.
- Anonymous
Genuinely quite bad for the effort. Despite a bugfix to the weapon's mod, it still does less damage than it should, gaining 10% per upgrade rather than 20% as a Lumenite weapon should. Really needs that bugfix/buff.
- Anonymous
After getting the Dran's Dream, go back to ward 13 and talk to Mudtooth. He has a new dialog.
- Anonymous
This would actually be worth it on a grey health build if the gun itself were worthwhile. Sadly I'm hardcore only and even on GH builds there are other guns that fit better. This is just a gimmicky weapon.

For the record rerolling adventures is not strictly necessary if you have a good campaign roll.
I had Red Palace, Marrow Parrish and Forgotten Prison as my campaign run so we didn't reroll anything at all.
Me and buddy basically cleared up to the Root Earth part in the campaign, then found the Ethereal Manor in an adventure, then visited the Dran guy in all the areas quickly on the Campaign roll with little to no fighting and got the gun.
- Anonymous
I think people are sleeping on the fact that the charge attack doesn't do direct damage but grey health conversion.
- Anonymous
Step 1: "Play on campaign mode up to Root Earth. Do note that it needs to be a POST-DLC run, if you had completed the campaign before the DLC came out, it won't work." The quest will work just fine if you find the Ethereal Manor/reach the Consecrated Throne before advancing a campaign to Root Earth.

It drains my health for a weak explosion, that doesn't even scale with ranged damage? Yeah, no, thanks.
- Anonymous
Nowhere in the description does it say it but it also seems to have the bow's 'Perfect release for maximum damage' effect as you can hear the sound for it when you do a perf release.
And since damage for it counts for bullet shot, and it just shoots 6 bullets like a shotgun but not a shotgun spread, I'm expecting that mod effects that have a chance to happen on hit might count for each bullet in the spread. If that is the case it would be insane.
- Anonymous
I had tormented asylum before getting to step 8 so don't need to rerroll if you have it already.
- Anonymous
It didn't appear for me in step 6 (N'erud), i went to base and back and still didnt appear so i though getting the spark and then returning to the Tal Ratha checkpoint.
He was at the left of the chamber.
Hope this helps.
Strange Enough, this gun normal shot shoot multiple bullets at once so Momentum mutator work well with it.
- Anonymous
Try it with Detonation Trigger, Archon class and bunch of other mod damage accessories and mutator, it becomes decent mod spamming DPS machine.
- Anonymous
Getting this thing was anguish in itself, and imo, it's not even a half decent weapon. It could've been my build of course, but still
- Anonymous
You don't have to reroll N'erud in adventure mode if you already have/beat Tal'Ratha in campaign mode. The Dran will be in Tal'Ratha's refuge checkpoint, He kinda blends in to the environment but he was to the left once you enter

Getting this weapon was nowhere near as bad as people make it out to be.
- Anonymous
Damage of the alt fire doesn't seem to have extra mod damage into account...
- Anonymous
after I did the long scavenger hunt, I talked to Mudtooth and he talked about meeting the Dran guy too. Mudtooth says he has something to give you but I never got any items after that interaction
- Anonymous
How to get Anguish in hardmode. You dont have Liquid Escape there. But there should be some workaround.
- Anonymous
- Anonymous
it's not top tier gun, but it can be interesting. the key is that its mod power requirement is so low + damage is scale by mod damage, so with Detonation Trigger and a mod build it can be almost fully uptime while having some decent damge
- Anonymous
Gun is nowhere near as hard to get as a initially thought, just need to have asylum and tal'ratha in campaign mode which makes it compatible with trying to get tranquil heart, re-roll until you start with morrow parish and when entering n'erud you'll either have the version where you can go for tranquil heart or you get tal'ratha
- Anonymous
Tried this on all kinds of builds. Dps builds. Explosive builds. This weapon is super weak. Don’t waste time with quest until it’s buffed.
- Anonymous
Found the mansion a 2nd time in adventure mode, didn't do it yet, decided to try for tranquil heart first, correct losomn but wrong nerud, but perfect for anguish
- Anonymous
if you die do you have to find the manor again? went back and he was not there.
- Anonymous
I got lucky and had a campaign run with all the areas required, makes it real easy since the only threat are the root right outside the train area. That Mantis is no joke. The dream area is real pretty, it's worth the run just to see it.
Detonation trigger makes this thing a lot better. The charged shot and mod have explosions. Detonation trigger makes the mod worthwhile.
Fun gun. It’s become my main secondary weapon.
- Anonymous
If you are on PC you can simple alt + F4 before dying. It worked for me on the last part when i had to kill Magister Dullain and he used the tongue attack
- Anonymous
- Anonymous
I could be in the minority here, (and don’t give a damn) but I really think methods of acquiring items such as the one used for this one, just suck the gun out of the whole experience. In fact, I’d go so far as to call it ‘anti-fun’, and I don’t think it warrants a place in gaming.
- Anonymous
Amazing Gun. Work as shotgun, Sniper and Rifle (weapon mod).
- Anonymous
done in hardcore, you can die in the manor to grab the crimstone dreamstone and progress to the next step. enigma mod used on the floor , walk inside and killed myself.
- Anonymous
After obtaining this weapon Mudtooth has new dialogue whenever I talk to him. He recounts that he had the same dream as us, the player, while chasing the Dran through all the Worlds and Dreams. At the end he says he has something for you, what with his adventuring days being over, and that you two are similar. Only he never gives me anything, and the dialogue repeats every time I talk to him. Anyone else have this issue?
- Anonymous
Appearantly the Taen fruit doesn't work while doing this quest. you go into the multiplayer defeated crawl and then die.
- Anonymous
- Anonymous
Who is even going to bother with this trash on hardcore? The gun isn't even that good. I swear Gunfire are nuts.
- Anonymous
There is the WEIRD obsession lately with requiring players to data mine games to find things. I remember the good ol' days of gaming where you could hump walls to find secret passages. Now you have to have guides to find so many things because of these gimmicky "meta" puzzles.

WHO came up with this **** on how to get this weapon?
Or better yet, who figured it out?
- Anonymous
You can skip the questline entirely if you join someone who is on the final step at the tormented asylum. I missed the initiation of the questline as I did not use the liquid escape at the manor, but I joined someone who was doing red prince, and when they ported over to the asylum, they talked to the dran in the tormented world and all of us got the consumable.
Host popped it and I was able to port to the null area with him, and pick up the crafting material for the gun
- Anonymous
It seems like it may be bugged, each upgrade increases base damage by 10% instead of 20%. Its scaling like a weapon that goes to +20 instead of +10.
- Anonymous
NOTE: It doesnt matter whether you meet this guy in campaign or adventure mode. As long as you do it in correct order and not die doing it. You can basicly finish one campaign on whatever roll and rest do in adventure mode for exact stoyline you need.
- Anonymous
Honestly kinda mid, would be better off as a weapon that you got from killing a boss. The effort it takes to get this weapon harms it since you're expecting something far far more worth.
It's outshined by a lot of other handguns
- Anonymous
I have been looking for a good boltgun style weapon since this game released and its finally here!
its just awful to get :')
- Anonymous
Does the Ethereal Manor Event have to appear in The Nightweaver's script?
- Anonymous
From my play time with this weapon it is pretty solid.
Standard Fire Mode - Is ok, basic shot gun 6 shot.
Charged Shot - Initial hit plus explosion damage is roughly double the damage of the standard shot, even if all the 6 shots hit.
Mod - This thing is amazing. At first I thought it was lack luster because it just shot some tiny needle. Then it dawned on me. I held down my mouse button and rapid fired those little needles if not as fast maybe faster than the MP60.
I then damage tested this thing vs Starshot and Meridian, Starshot has always been in my opinion lackluster vs one target, so t lost this fight. Meridian did solid damage with its 5 rockets, but the Anguish did double the numbers.
- Anonymous
For what it's worth, you can roll a campaign and do this all in 1 go without rerolls. I just happened to get a campaign with Morrow/Prison/Throne and rolled an Awakened King adventure until the first fog door led to the kiln with the Haunted Manor injectable and then hopped over to the campaign I already ran through. Doing it in the order does matter. You need to exhaust his dialogue in each area until he tells you to wake up.
- Anonymous
It's a Ricochet Shotgun + Machine Gun + Rocket Launcher all-in-one Gun!
- Anonymous
It is truly Anguish to get this weapon. Fitting name for this gun.
- Anonymous
Weapon mod has really great stagger and recharges quick, but damage overall is rather lackluster outside a dedicated explosive build (and the corrupted meridian or star shot seem to do better there).
- Anonymous
I haven't seen any info nor values around about it but the charged shot also has a sweetspot like the Savior. Worth equipping the Supercharger mutator on it.
Got it first try. You don't have to perfect roll campaign. But that supposed to be obvious if you try to complete like step 4.
