Decorum Cipher

Quest Item

decorum cipher quest item remnant2 wiki guide 200px

An incredibly dense memory storage device, containing not only knowledge but also algorithms, filters, classifications, and learned behaviors. Once part of a strong Al, it has been reduced to a fragmented, sociopathic operating system.

"The Custodian's personality was never designed as such. Like all such intelligences, it learned appropriate behaviours through rigorous training algorithms. However, we did build safeguards to prevent particularly... irrational outcomes."

Decorum Cipher is a Quest Item in Remnant 2. Quest Items are used to unlock or advanced through certain quests or main story quests, as well as unlocking and discovering certain areas. Key Items are specifically found in specific areas of a Location, given by NPCs or looted from Enemies and Bosses.

How to Use Decorum Cipher in Remnant 2

Decorum Cipher is used in the following Quests or Location:

  • Can be used at Abyssal Rift or Ascension Spire. There is a room downstairs in the area where you find The Custodian, in which you can insert two "key" quest items. One is the Memory Core II and the other one is the Decorum Cipher. Inserting either of these keys first will open a door to the Core Booster; if you are lucky and get both keys, you can then insert the second key and it will open another door to the Pulse Rifle.

How to Find Decorum Cipher in Remnant 2

Decorum Cipher can be found in:

  • Terminus Station, after all cars of the train are cleared. Enter the control room upstairs and jump out of the window onto the train. You will find this as well as the Atom Smasher in the head car.

Remnant 2 Decorum Cipher Notes & Trivia

  • I soon as you enter the tower you should see a room with 4 statues sitting in chairs. There is a hole behind the first statue on the left that you can drop down, which leads to a room with a vendor and two elevators. One elevator returns you to the surface, the other takes you further down to an area where you can place one of those two key items on a pedestal to complete the quest, and right behind that pedestal will be the reward.
  • Note there should also be another purple item in the larger area surrounding the pedestal. Check both sides of that large room for a little bridge to crouch under for that extra item.

I think i managed to softlock this quest, I have the Memory Core 2 key but can't grab the Decorum Cipher even though I have Terminus Station finished. When i first finished the dungeon i didnt see the item so i just left. A friend told me about the cipher being here so i came back to try grabbing it. Turns out, trains gone and I have no way to go grab the key. Anyone have this same issue or some way to fix it?

Okay, so to try and clear up some of the confusion among the comments as well as the wiki entry - this is how it actually works:

There is a room with barriers below the area where you find The Custodian.
Near the entrance to the side by a statue there should be a hole in the ground you can go down.

There you will have access to a vendor "Drzyr Replicator" as well as two elevators. Get on the elevator that goes downwards. (Just check the ceiling, is there one? Elevator down. Is it a hole? Elevator up.)

Now there is no guarantee that you will have access to both keys (Decorum Cipher and Memory Core II) during the same run so this part might be a bit random and may need some rerolling.

If you get a world where both are available (Terminus Station as well as Dormant N'Erudian Facility need to both be available locations) you will also need to acquire both to get to the Pulse Rifle.

So go to both locations and get their respective item.
There is NO correlation between the two keys and the item you get, it's simply that there are two barriers to get through and one item opens one barrier.

Regardless of which item you put in first - only the first barrier will go down which gives you access to the Core Booster.
Then, regardless of which item you put in second - the second barrier will go down which gives you access to the Pulse Rifle.

So again: you NEED BOTH to get access to the Pulse Rifle.

Hope this clears everything up - because my god some of the people commenting sound like they are having a mental breakdown.

That note about only have one of two keys on a run is false. I have both keys on the same adventure run right now. Perhaps it's rare, but that note is way too long and isn't true. It needs to be removed.

I made the mistake of leaving terminus station before getting the item.. turns out there's no way back into the end of the rail if you do, unless I'm just missing something obvious idk

So for players who want it, here is how to get it :

              1) Go check the Custodian room to see if there are two barriers, this part is random you can get no barrier, one (for the Core Booster) or two (Core booster and Pusle Rifle), you will need both key.
              2) Find both events to get their keys (i don't know if this part is random or if you are sure to get both if both are needed)
              3) Use both keys.
              4) Enjoy

So after finally finding the Area in the Custodians place. I turned in the Cipher to finally get that sweet Pulse Rifle and what do I get? The god forsaken Core Booster! so do what you will with this info.

Hope this helps. It looks like you can only find one of the two key items on a given run. I've searched all over both halves of N'Erud and triple checked each side dungeon, only coming across Memory Core 2 in the Dormant N'Erudian Facility. I'm guessing the dungeon that holds the Decorum Cipher spawns in a different world state (I'm only on my first playthrough so I don't know what that dungeon's name is, but if you have the Dormant facility on your map, you probably can't get the Cipher unless you roll another campaign or adventure run of N'Erud. As to where to take these items, whichever one you have, return to the entryway of the custodian npc's tower (for me this is the ascension spire with a fast travel beacon of the same name right outside) As soon as you enter the tower you should see a room with 4 statues sitting in chairs. There is a hole behind the first statue on the left that you can drop down, which leads to a room with a vendor and two elevators. One elevator returns you to the surface, the other takes you further down to an area where you can place one of those two key items on a pedestal to complete the quest, and right behind that pedestal will be the reward that corresponds to the item you used (as mentioned above, core booster for those with the Memory Core, Pulse rifle for those with the Cipher). I had the memory core so I received the Booster as a reward. Note there should also be another purple item in the larger area surrounding the pedestal. Check both sides of that large room for a little bridge to crouch under for that extra item. Sorry for the long post but hope this helps :)

"Can be used at Abyssal Rift. There is a room downstairs"
DOWNSTAIRS WHERE?!?!?! Abyssal Rift is the name of an entire HALF of the map
