Hardcore Mode in Remnant 2 is an optional setting players can decide to enable when creating a character in the game. Hardcore Mode is a punishing feature that is only recommended to the most experienced players, given that death is permanent. There are 6 Hardcore Rewards that players may be able to obtain including Weapons, Rings, and Amulets.

Remnant 2 Hardcore Mode Features

  • The most important feature is that death is Permanent. Once you die, that character is lost and you can not play further with that save.
  • You are not able to host or join any public game lobby.
  • You are limited to only play with other Hardcore Mode players.
  • You get access to 6 Hardcore Mode Specific Rewards that can't be obtained in any other way.

Should You play Hardcore Mode in Remnant 2?

Hardcore Mode is a mode only reserved for the most dedicated players. Remnant 2 can be difficult, even playing on its base difficulty. Hardcore Mode's main mechanic if permanent death, meaning that when your character dies, it CAN'T be played further.

If you are a veteran to the genre and feel up for the challenge, go ahead. If, however, you are starting on the genre or find the base game difficult, it is advised to not play Hardcore Mode.

Please check the table on the side to learn about the increase in damage and health of both common Enemies and Bosses, as well as the earned experience percentage while selecting any of the four difficulty modes.

As expected, Apocalypse grants the higher amount of Experience Points rewards, increasing them to an extra 50% gain. But the huge increase in both Enemies and Bosses health and damage output, makes it a mode only the most dedicated players should experience. I understand that people are drawn to this type of thing, but I really wish death just made you restart the world you're on. Perma death has kept me away from these type of challenges and games. It's too stressful for me.

Love this game. Just (finally) beat my hardcore run with challenger/summoner using the shotty from the challenger class and the enigma :) Like someone else said-- the cube boss was the biggest roadblock for sure

It seems The One True King doesn't count for unlocking Dran Scavenger Ring. Just cleared it but the ring does not show up in my shop.

If you are on multiplayer, can you get revived, or do you just die when knocked down? Question extends to handler, will your dog be allowed to revive you if downed or do you just die?

I've personally confirmed that most if not all of the scripted deaths in the game related to unlocking things will NOT kill your hardcore character. You can get grabbed by the manticora in the drains of Losomn's streets and sewers to get the Alchemist archetype and the Drakestone Pearl ring + Alchemist armor set respectively, and be stabbed by the Red Prince's phantoms to get the Blood Draw weapon mod. The arrest event in Yaesha's Red Throne proceeds as normal, with you waking up in the prison cell regardless of the circumstances of your death, whether the guards kill you or you simply fling yourself into the void to save time.
Unlocking the Engineer archetype on N'erud, while not a strictly scripted death, is easily avoidable. Simply run in as fast as possible, pick up the engram material, and quit to menu.

I very much want to collect all the items in the game. I'm willing to take it slow, learn the game thoroughly to avoid risks, and make multiple attempts to get what I want.
I am however not impressed by the geometry physics bugs that fails a mandatory ledge grab and other such geometry based hangups and glitches that result in arbitrary death. Waaaaay too many places to perma-die just because geometry wasn't smoothed out / play tested, that is aside from the rest of the laundry list of arbitrary instant deaths *actually intended* in the game design.

Wanted to try it out like I did in the first game but I remembered Labyrinth Sentinel is mandatory and lost all my motivation
